Or we do continuously 3 days, 31 Aug till 2 Sep?
Make exhibitions, grand sales (towels, shirts etc), then break swimming record, other activities...
The problem is: not enough man power...
The suggestion is:cannot be done alone...

i think oraganize a party ( o ball??), tat ask all those ex-ex-ex.... seniors to come bek n gather... ( mayb at de beach ther??? )
since kar ling, mr peter khoo , mr hooi always say, they al wish to hv a gathering to meet v their batch of LG together again...
then v can grab this chance, as create a special event for them to gather lo...
n a great chance for us to meet our seniors, which might useful for LG inde future activities
(for eg, can get more sponsorship fr more seniors, hehehehe...)

then mayb in de ball, can do some interacting games....
o can do some slides to get a flash bek start from 1979 til now....

if doing grand sales, v need to invest a bulk of money in 1st, n quite risky ( i think )

Hey everyone,

I kinda like Loy Chee's idea, if we can get enough man power to pull it off, it would be a great way to raise funds and elevate the status of the lifeguard corps in USM and Malaysia. Since Sze Yin is in PR, she might be able to get some contacts or even sponsors. We could even propose, that this become part of her final year project.

Taking risk is part of life.

To the current committee, whatever you all plan, I'll be behind you all the way.

I think the sales idea is ok, besides organizing an event we need to take this chance to make profits too. But like Weinn said, the risk is too big. Is it possible to find any sponsors like Arena and Milo? Set up an Arena counter and we take % of each sale. Last time I also heard about Chin Teng's idea to organize an Aquathon. Is it still on? Maybe we can do it to celebrate our 30th birthday, inviting the ex-ex-ex LG back to this event. We can also make this a charity swim, make every laps like RM1.00, the money will be donated. By this way we can find more sponsors, in the other hand LG less profits, but we helped the one in need.

Sponsorship department will have to be very confident to speak and thick face... I wonder if our method of finding sponsors got problem... Have to learn from Scuba Diving..

As I know the Scuba Diving people really did hard to find sponsors, they can sit in the manager's room, talk to them, call them untill they cannot tahan and the sponsorship is done. I don't think last time PR did like that la... We must approach them, contact and call them always for responds, cannot sit there and wait.

For a small corps like us, not so famous to the outsiders (sorry but this is the truth, not much people know about us and our activities...), it's really hard to get sponsorship easily unless your muka very tebal. So I hope we can claim a fame through this 30th Anniversary Celebration, make it a big event, let others know USM Lifeguard Corps (I hope this is not a dream).

So first of all we need to ge sponsorship where our field is, water & sports, companies that is related to water sports equipment (Arena or Speedo). Second, nutrition products (eg. Milo which has always related it's products to sports), or maybe energy/isotonic drinks like 100 Plus.

Helping other sell products is good because we don't need to invest much and products are ready, but the profits are lower. So we shall think about some products where we can gain better profits (if we want). What about 30th anniversary t-shirts, towels or badges?

This is only the thing I can think about now. We still need a lot of meetings and ideas to make the event success. I suggest IF we REALLY want to organize a big event, we shall have meeting start from early next semester.

Sometimes association also desperate for money because most of them don't do business, they gain money from donation and members. Unless there's an association which really interested in our event. Or we can ask for man power? Such as if we wanna do Aquathon for 4 days 4 nights (breaking record), we can seek for outsider swimmers. I still think that companies are the best to ask for donation because they make profits. Anyone have better suggestions please give us and do correct me if I'm wrong.

One more thing, some of us suggested to have a ball right? It's a nice idea but it doesn't help to promote the corps much. It's only among us and the ex LGs. Anyway, we can include a ball in our event, as to celebrate the successful 30th Anniversary event.

all is quite good suggestions, but we will need to figure out the probability of achieving it. n of cos our ability of making it success. we got one year ahead to prepare it.

Life Saving Exhibition --> I think we can do it because we do it every sem. But this time me make it digitally rather than just sticking posters and photos.

Grand Sales --> Possible if we can deal with the companies (suppliers) and we design good things for sale.

Breaking record charity swim --> Possible to do, we're swimmers aren't we?

Ball/party --> Yeah everyone loves to enjoy.

Health/Drowning Awareness/Seminar --> This one we can invite Mr. Hooi, Ms. Lee or Mr. Peter to give us a talk. We must figure out the targets of audiens and how many people will come, hope that students and outsiders can take part because don't wanna end up lifeguards the only audiens.

What is the purpose of our anniversary project in the first place?

1. Money?
2. Charity?
3. Monumental celebration?
4. Life-saving exposure?
5. USM LG Corp prestige?

I think we better focus on our objective so that we can narrow our choices and also, we can avoid from overlapping goals which really can drain everyone out.
Remember our setback number one and two: manpower and USM academic calender

You're right Jolynn. We must need an objective. Well, I hope to promote USM Lifeguard Corps and need to gain a fame because not much people know about us.

I think we really need 2 promote live saving... during my 1st year, i dunno got such club or wat... even i noe, i also not sure wat it does... maybe we can set a booth at pool there (ppl who noe swimming will be more interested 2 join life saving course...)
or maybe can demo some basic skills 2 let student noe wat is life saving... weirdface

About promoting LS, can we do something at the entrance of pool? Since it is renovated we can put something there and promote also..

One of the main thing for celebration is promoting LS also mah...

I think I get what SJ and LY meant...

Last time when I joined Interact, four years ago was the centennial celebration for Rotary club (1000 years) worldwide.

From what I observed, what they did was really monumental celebration; stuff like dinner ball and party. In the agenda they really did a very good publicity(stuff like presentation and booklets) that talked all about the history and what they do.

Typical of Rotary club, they have lucky draw coupon sale for the ball and the proceeds go to charity and seriously, the coupon was really like prom ticket sale. Talk about class... so we Interactors become the runners and went around selling the tickets for RM10 each. The buyers don't have to come to the ball if they don't want to but if their number hit prizes (and I mean good ones too), they'll be notified

What I can say is that: All in one... idea

Just to share some experience... Don't have follow if not possible wink

I dun think set booth at pool is a good idea...but the concept is good...
booth should be set at the crowd places as usual, DK foyer, but then we can add in some demo time for the exhibition during the 1st week n 2nd week...
for those who interested, they are welcome to join the demo at the pool...
Discuss with pak cik about the entrance fees, free for the observers...

set a time, date for the demo... make it easier for lifeguards who r going to do demo...

Apart from it, I think it is a good idea for lifeguards to expose themselves to public...train urself...

booth should be set at the crowd places as usual, DK foyer, but then we can add in some demo time for the exhibition during the 1st week n 2nd week...

Back to the business, well, promoting life saving is something we do every sem. In the Sem I of 2009, we just made it a lil bit more special. Besides promoting life saving, any other ideas? For myself... I really hope to do one charity swim. That day a report about charity swim which sponsored by Speedo came out on The Star, so if we wanna promote LG, we might take this chance too...

kinda interaction day games but more games, station games, swimming competition, then continue with party^^

better still if we combine with interaction day biggrin

1. if so this year interaction day will be more people and more fun~~yeayea

2. we save time, money and energy,
no need organize twice for almost same thing,
loupeng no need waste petrol go for 2 events if in case we wanna do it outside Penang (interaction day and anniversary)

3. no need meeting twice,
just add event while meeting about interaction day,
might as well expand the interaction day for 3 days 2 night^^
or even 4 days 3 night^^
(might be tiring, as for me i don't mind la,mb i could enjoy more leh,who knows..hehe)

4. Interaction day is an important annual activity,
i believe it brings alot of momories from loupeng,
how nice if i'm graduate but i have a chance to back to our interaction day again^^ my point of view...lol aww

of cause the games might be slightly different as our previous interaction days is short,
perhaps we could come out with more fun games~
more sharing from loupeng cz i only know how was my interaction day for once only,
how loupeng's interaction day,fun onot,wat's special...bla bla bla...dono..hehe

if really the objective is to promote life saving other than to have fun,
then my suggestion cannot work dy...
but i believe we could promote life saving better enough through promoting our LS courses eg B. Med

pls: about the aniversary, may be exco should announce that in the coming GM idea

as i know, not many people activity join our forum, they might not know about our 30th anniversary^^ just my 20 cents ya aww
