ther'l sure some difficulties in promoting Life saving in Uni...
currently, cant think of any practical step to promote la...

i stil rmb my 3rd yr ther's a kindergarten approach us saying wan us to hv some demonstration of swimming to their students,
last time v deomnstrate some vy simple life saving skills to them such as reaching rescue...
mayb tru this, v can introduce to more sch...

currently ther r 2 sch having their so-called "swimming class" ( i think is their ko-k ) in USM pool, mayb v can approach de swimming instructors to organise a demonstration on life saving skills, n promoting life saving as well....
mayb in de demonstration, can let them hv a try on some skills, eg, rope throw o reaching rescue...

this is wat currently i can think of...

yaya its a new approach i think. and for next sem starting i think we have to plan how to promote during counter. cos i think the trend has change and we need to change the marketing style. Do you know wat i mean?????

To all members:

I still remeber the many challenges we faced during my tenure in promoting lifesaving. As Soon Wen said, the trend among students these days has changed. Students are more into studies these days. I don't blame them, as the current working environment these days is very competitive and employers place a lot of importance on academic achievement as well.
Thus, we have to find new ways to approach the promoting of lifesaving.

Hopefully we won't have to open the LS counter for 2 weeks.

Posters = Budget

But if you mean those mahjong paper with Sports Unit's stamp of course the more the better. But then again, that will mean more time spent of having the posters done. :)

Yo Sam,

The multimedia presentations would be a great way to enhance the promotions, but you will have to ensure that the members are very responsible in mending the booth. We do not want cases of thefts or lost expensive equipment to occur.
In addition, i think your batch is a more artistic and creative bunch, so i encourage your idea to prepare more posters that are attractive and place them in more schools.

Just be prepared to draw more...

to aim for at least one life saver in every family.....i think we have to promote awareness in secondary school levels first...
may be some roadshows....invite people to that..plus activities la.. of course to attract more people....

i think v can do sumthing like treasure hunt...cz the freshman still do not know tat the location of the pool...sumor is very far..so maybe nid to deal vf the school affair to add the number of bus go through the pool..i think the entertainment style is mor attractive than v jz giving the flyers...nid to do a big revolution...

If want outsiders participants, can we promote at the public swimming pool or schools with swimming pools? Easier to promote something related to water sports. Target on school swimmers and swimming club members. Swimmer will likely attracted to life saving course more than those who don't know how to swim. We do demonstration, stick printed posters to attract them.

ya, actually I plan to make a video presentation for life saving, atleast a more clear picture to the fresh man about what life saving is...together with the tagedy and accident drowning case, make ppl understand wat is it need for...

Ev is right, I juz worry whether we can put it on the booth since evryone have to jaga the things and who willing to borrow it to us...

marketing is not sorely the promotion at booth, it shd be a continuous process.

apparently,this is a tradition of LG, which is always envy by the non-LG...gua....
which makes us want to join LG corps,

advertising shd be sth indirect and attractive.
the more indirect the activities,
the greater the interest would gain from public.

indirect means it is not necessary done at the pool,
not also sorely teaching or demonstrating lifesaving skills,
pointless if it is not creative enough,not attractive
however, some Q&A abt lifesaving must not be overlooked^^

promotion from words and mouth is
useless if the promotion is not REMARKABLE,
camping,telematch and treasure hunt could be fun and memorable^^

those activities are not a misleading start although
they seem "terbias" from lifesaving objectives,
last time we join also because we want to have fun--we interested
after join we noe it is a serious and high-responsibility job--we learn
then courses become harder and harder,we adapt

better don concentrate on activity that only attract swimmers
sometimes even non-swimmers have talent too,
but they don't noe it bcz they are not interested yet
who knows they can become ppl lik zixiang and soon jiun?hehe
so entertainment-like is even attractive and encouraging^^

Maybe we can try demo 2 them how 2 perform life saving skill... rather than just open the booth and let them c those life saving photos...
but how 2 get them 2 the pool, also a problem lar... maybe we can do some "pool testing" lor...

To be honest, if the transportation to pool remains a problem, people will still find it inconvenient to travel to pool, let alone to join LS course.

Only few people find it a passion that they're willing to walk there. People like us who don't have transport.

But then again, hope USM renang bus works better next semester

I like sotong's idea of demonstrating rather than showing picture. Transportation to the pool, for me it's still consider ok la because I willing to walk and I like the pool very much. Last year when I just got into USM, I heard got something like "bus sukan" that take the students to Padang Minden at a fixed time, but I never see bus service of this before.

most ppl who will go pool is ppl who interested in this kind of activity..
But sum ppl dun even noe where is swimming pool... so maybe we can try 2 let ppl noe tat usm got a v nice pool... then from there only promote LS ??? weirdface

I think we should let them know what is the basic first la...

As we know, we do not recruit ppl that do not swim right?

So i think we should let them know how fun and great we are lo... Sometimes, i think we might let them see our 'crazy thing' sometimes lo... But not too over one la... Such as our activities rather than just taking the sole BM.

Let them see their future after taking BM and becoming LG if possible...

So, Intro our pool first... Then only demo or whatever lor... hehe...

Long time din update,haha...k, If is a water carnival or something involve water games in usm pool say one day, transport i think can be done, we can get shuttle bus for that purpose...In between the resting time, we let them rest at the pool side and we demo...
If want to be more creative, after the demo n game started again, we can have a case simulation without notice them...
From there, the scene will stick into their mind...
