Hi. Today, 11 Nov 2008. One of our associate lifeguard which is also a student lifeguard faced a problem when encounter a rule breaker - An old Public (Golden Citizen???)
This fellow wear a so called "Lycra material shorts/boxes?" and intended to go into the swimming pool.
Ya. U're right of course one of our "brave"(Haha) Associate LG went and stop him. Unfortunately, that "Golden Citizen" refused to come out from the pool and speak loudly towards our "poor" Associate LG. I'm sorry to tell that i know this after the pool while we had our dinner, so i not really know what is their "argument".
But what i know for sure is our "Lovely Golden Citizen" is very rude towards us(I mean Associate LG). Guess why? I think is because they think that we're still students. Not only him, me myself also kena before, and i think some other LG also kena before right? Then, some of us react too slow and kena tembak buta buta. After that only feel angry which is pointless already. (Sorry and no offense, just tell the truth as i had the same experience before)
So, dear fellow LG, Share ur experience if u had one and give some opinions so that in the future, either Junior or Senior LG know which is the best method when encounter the same problem.
Alamak why this golden citizen still come and swiim. later heart-attack kan sussah. Just let them know, we ask u to come out is for ur safety. we are worrying of ur health later matil katak kan susah. kamu susah mengapa nak susah kan kita, LG... see your post also geram d la SJ.
In my opinion one reason is our body does not look strong and "big" size. It gives the public the feeling of weak and amateur LG. So the students think that why you LGs want to be so mean, you and I are students; the lecturers think that how dare you LGs command me like that, I am lecturer you know; and the public thinks that why you LGs talk so rude, we are the public users, you are just a student!
Whisper...(The people I encountered last month was MR Peter Khoo and his family, not ordinary public! That is even worse from this case you know!)
So I think the best method is you treat me good, I treat you good. If the public wants to differentiate the status, then we bring out our status as LGs on duty, not students. As associate LGs we are paid to duty, not being selected by unit sukan to look at their face. I would say this if I was there.

They never treat us as the one who take care of their life! They always think we're there because we should be there. Our job there is just make sure the pool is open. That's all! If the pool is not open, LG kena blame, if accident happen, LG kena blame, if drowning case happen, lagi tak payah cakap, LG responsibility! But honestly speaking, before all these happen, did they really respect as the one who taking care of their life? No matter how good u are, accident stil accident. One final thing that i really cannot take it are those so called LECTURER that highty mighty in the class or lecture hall. They're the most hardest to encounter that i met before. Please, Respect us as fellow LG when u come to the pool. Not as ur student.

Haha... CT, don tulan. when u hear another u will oso feel tulan. Haha Just a few days ago, (sorry, recently not really eng to online d.) there is another one so called Professor from i think is KANITA. He wore a quite funny type of 'swimming trunk' and look like an underwear. though i'm swimming and i think it might be a swimming trunk lar as there is tali one mar. Forgive me that i never see such underwear before so i wouldn't suspect him much.
Of course, we're LG and we "should" have the right to check and make sure that the swimming costume is allowed, right? And that fellow refuse to come out from the pool.
And of course after that.... Jeng jeng jeng is coming to help to solve the problem. And that fellow talk like no one, keep blaming everyone, system suck and dolphin bla bla bla. Which is very rude and spoil his image as a lecturer a.w.a a PROFESSOR. And the detail of the story can ask urself later lar...
But recently, we really face a lot of troublecome ppl. Well, sorry to say that we the meat inside a burger lar. Sport Unit and the Public.
I was there when the incident that SJ mentioned happened. That particular "Prof" is very infamous. Well known for throwing temper tantrums and throwing his weight around just because he thinks he enjoys Prof status. People like him have no respect for us LG's. Sometimes I wish Sports Unit would just revoke their membership and tell them to use a pool somewhere else.

haiya... the most teruk kena "belasah" one is alex... kesian....... ask one question so politely and nicely....the answer is spitting and shouting straight at the face..... i can hear from the high chair they are at the bench there...... oh my
Nothing can be done........ the only thing dun one to get F**K by the ppl is to talk louder than them when they get loud at u....... which i always dun do..... cos i still undergrat here...let me finish first and i F**K their ancestors along with them........
So peace k everyone......dun be sad and angry.....we save lives and another thing.... If u really veryvery veryvery (u see they come in pair/square power.) tu lan and PISSED off.... pray pray hard for lightning to strike straight at them.... u know why natural disasters LG cant help it.... is their time to go in that way..... we cant do anything....u see...
AND PLS DUN PRAY for heartattack.... cramp......or anything to do with health..... we still need to save them....if we choose not to....it is against our professionalism...u see..... PLS REMEMBER.... IN MALAYSIA LIghtning is the strongest we can have.................. and pls make sure u PRAY TO STRIKE AT HIM WHEN HE IS ALONE ..... so no others who are innocent like us are harmed......
ya, everytime we duty as USM lifeguards, I prefer to take action politely, it is softer than the swimming pool outside, but remember we are university lifeguards, should be slightly differ from non-undergrad LG la...haha...rubbish...because this can only applied to people who are bertamadun...The cases above such as the alex and the prof case, they asks the pool users politely but never works for them...
For alex case, Im teaching that time so not very sure what happen but can see the senior citizen shouting at him loudly and pointing at alex rudely...
For the prof case, I'm there...we wonder what is the material so ask loy chee(LG on duty) to checkk vf the prof...he asks prof politely and damn soft, u can imagine...then the prof ask bec: U r student here right? wats your name? loy chee? ok, I'm profesor.... From this sentence, i think you all got a fire inside your body ad...wat the...
after long time af arguing and trying to push the old man bec to topic of wat r u wearing by kenneth koh...hehe...I wan to highlight one phrase kk said to prof...
Because prof keep say muz complain to sports department, KK said : Ya, prof, I agreed vf you, is very right to complain to them about the sux management.... Prof, you r setting a very good example....(Then the prof nod his head say yaya..)...BY WEARING UNDERWEAR IN THE SWIMMMING POOL! (prof though kk wan to praise him, manatau still havnt finish the sentence)
Some of you might thk kk is too much, but I guarantee kk shld say that... you dun thk so, because you r not deal vf the prof...he came to pool to angry...before enter the water, he argue vf pak cik.... after enter the pool, LG ask him to confirm, he angry LG... Im on KK side!
