Why it is so hard to follow the dress code of the theme?

Every Aquatic night has a theme, but most of the attendants didn't follow the dress code...what is the reason? Communication breakdown? the info didn't pass to the guests? Not clear code? To be improved, we need to know the reasons... please share~smile

It is because they do not know there is a theme there, and I believe people seldom join such ball nights with themes.....

I disagree with what Loy Chee said. The guest are already informed of the themes when they buy the tickets (in fact, it is printed on the tickets) and the members themselves are the ones who have taken part in the setting of the theme and preparations. In any case, not knowing the theme is not a valid excuse.

So why is it that they do not put in any effort for the theme? I believe it all boils down to our Asian culture. In general, most people are not sporting enough to dress up in theme. They believe it will make them look like a fool and affect their credibility. They're afraid they will not be taken seriously after that and affect their image.

There you have it. My two cents.

We from the East are less exposed to such costume parties (unlike the West, who have Hallowe'en etc) and we are so uptight in our lives that it seems to be hard to relax for a bit and have some fun...

However, I think some guests also are not fully aware of the themes, only given tickets on the hour that they arrived at the hotel, thinking that it's just another cinderella ball hosted by uni students to attend to...

Old d, you start to be forgetful already...
What SY said is correct. Forthermore, our guest might have a cultural shock and get heart attack. I know all the ppl who attend the ball know CPR well, just in case nia la. hehe

wat SY said is very correct. after all, here is eastern country. ppl tend to be very shy to show their "ability" or "figure" or "creativity"..

Unless with the coperation from the hotelier, they decorate the ball room like halloween atmosphere + their staff is compulsory to join us as well. then I think it will be different!

Try to get some baju that can be rented. RM 10.00 per baju. LG can untung lagi, kan baik~~~

Why would the ballroom be decorated in a halloween atmosphere??? Halloween is at the celebrated at the end of October and is never at the same time as aquatic nite. Besides, it would be sad if you suggested that they threw a halloween themed aquatic nite.hmm

In addition, I do not see the relation between the hotel staff dressing up and the attendees dressing up. I understand that the hotel could cooperate with helping decorate the ballroom but the staff are just there to do their jobs to waiter, etc.. They're not obliged to do so. Once again it all boils down to the effort of the people attending the ball to dress up.

Finally, friend....I clearly see that you have never rented a suit before or are aware of their rates. I challenge you to find me a costume for RM10.00! Costumes go for prices starting at hundreds of dollars. If you can find one at RM10.00 it better not be made from paper and meant to be burned for the deceased.wink

Well, there was once a line and it goes:

In Malaysia, you will need only 3 kinds of apparels to last you 1 lifetime.

1. Jeans and T-shirt
2. Short pants and Singlets
3. A few pairs of long sleeve shirt and matching slacks (black, black, and black)

Why?

1. you're in this when you're doing something not sweaty (shopping, driving long distance)

2. you're in this when you're doing something sweaty

3. Cheerful colours (like peach, pearl, light brown - these are colourful according to asian cultures) for work and social occasions (clubbing if you must) and black & whites for formal (nites, weddings, funeral). Funny thing is that in Asia, your funeral suit can double up as your wedding suit. :)

Chin Teng,
Sorry if I made you feel like a silly man. That wasn't the intention of my post.
I just wanted to point out that I thought the idea of renting costumes out at RM10.00 quite hillarious.
No offense meant. We cool man?

From all the posts here, I think most of the people (who are actively express their ideas) agrees culture differences is the main reason for this phenomenon...

So...Is that means costume dressing is impossible or difficult or can be improve in Malaysia, USM aquatic people network?

Is the theme still important for that night? Since it sound meaningless if no guests willing to cooperate and play the theme...

oh my......pls la...........yes this is eastern...but there is always ways to think outside the box one............. i am waiting to see that when one day u boss call u to wear really really precise for a masquerade party with all their international guest....i wonder what will happen to u......

Pls la.............................................it is the person's problem that makes him or her not to dress according to theme. simply becos they dun wan to....... never even tried to figure out a bit more what they will wear..... u see.......... the thinking/mentality so so.....typical....... so ....... cavemen.........

I warned those... like CT JY "PIGSBABI"..... if u ruin the next aquatic nite... u watch out..... i bite ur ears off like mike tyson did to hollifield(dunno correct or not spelling..)

I still remember last aquatic nite the 5 head of departments were so nervous and doing last minute preparations, I was still making the lamps on the day before aquatic nite.. on that night we could hardly sit down and enjoy the food also.... So it is forgivable that we did not decorate ourselves.....
