anyone like coffee here? coffee like Starbuck, Coffee Bean, San Francisco n etc.. or even 3 in 1... like a coffee maniac. cant live without coffee... i noe Edwin is one of them..
wat flavour u like the most??
i personally think that the San Francisco ice blended mocha is great. last time went MASUM time, got chance to go Mid Valley gua n have a drink inside.
the coffee is bitter yet fragrant n with some choc sweet. it is indeed a nice coffee to try. especially is on Buy 1 Free 1 treat. (dunno now still got or not)
Coffee Bean Ice Blended Mocha also very nice.. i like it also. n Starbuck is the worst ad.. the coffee not fragrant also.. lose to others quite much...
however, drinkin tat kind of coffee cost u a lot.. long time drink once will be enough for me d..
ps: i jus had ice latte at Starbuck which make me cannot sleep at this late time... now is 4.35am le!! OMG... powerful coffee for those who dun wan to sleep!!
hehehehe, it's 6:10 a.m. and I'm still damn very awake.
I like cafe latte, coz can taste the coffee.... neva liked mocha nor wateva mixture, just cafe latte will do the trick. (I've tried every single coffee/chocolate/tea based drink in San Francisco, Dome, Coffee Bean, Old Town, Starbucks)
Well, of all kinds of coffee I've tasted, the best ones are still the 80 cents coffees in reputable old coffee shops.... Those kopi O's are the best you can find.... Go Ipoh to find, they have nice coffee shops there....
The best franchise coffee I had was this cafe latte, in Berjaya Times Square's Starbucks.... Maybe coffee beans they used there different?

As serious coffee lovers, I thought you all would have built up immunity towards caffeine by now. I had no problems last night, slept as soundly as a baby. Hehehe. Even went to donate blood without a hitch.
Anyways, I agree with Teen Yuen, the best coffee is still the one you get for only 80 cents at our favorite coffee shops. All those big fracnchises can't compare. They don't even come close.
i'm not really sure about those franchises... too much of luxury for me... only visit those places on special occasions... e.g. daddy or mummy struck 4-D...
contrary to junyuan's view... i think coffee bean is the worst... duno...maybe i got the wrong blend... i think its not "gau" enuf...
starbucks is ok... maybe is expensive... so have to force myself to admit its good...hehe...
my favourite among those 3 is San F... maybe cause not available in IP... more exclusive...thus tastes better...
of course...like EQ said before... i hail from the Land of White Coffee... so...my favourite is of course... White Coffee...
i started drinking around secondary school... influenced by my mummy...a coffee addict... (she needs one glass in the morning to kick start and one glass booster at lunch)...
i started drinking not for the caffeine... but just for the fun of it... act like adult mar... secondary school still drink milo or horlick meh...
at home... we drink those 3-in-1 white coffee mix... dun underestimate them... the white coffee mix are good...
when come to USM... have to buy my own coffee... can't afford white coffee mix...expensive... so have to resort to Nescafe... some more Nescafe always got promo...cheap... i only bought once...Rich...the green pack... too dilute...i end up drinking 2 sticks in one go...
since then... i never buy Nescafe... and go home curi my mum's coffee supply... hehe...
80 sen Kopi O? i not sure cause i not always drink kopi O... but Iced White Coffee in a coffee shop in IP cost around 1.30-1.60... and rising... damn inflation...
no joke... in the Land of White Coffee... just walk into any coffee shop and get yourself a glass of Iced White Coffee... chances are you'll be impressed...
(if want good white coffee mix...try the original Old Town...or Chek Hup...)

do u all care for wat makes the coffee? i mean choose over the coffee beans. mayb local n foreign. as suppose there will be difference in tasting.
mostly franchises willl use foreign coffe bean to brewed their coffee (unless they cheating, or else wat is the expensive price for) n 80 cent Kopi O will use local coffee bean.
didnt have to chance to drink coffee in ipoh before. but i m well heard of the famous white coffee in ipoh.
ps: MP, how to noe whether it is really ori old town white coffee??
I'm not a coffee addicted person la. But sometimes get me a cup of coffee will eventually bright up my life oso. Any kind of coffee i take, no matter the bitterness but must gao enuf. Some coffee really like no umph at all like nescafe as MP say one. End up i use them to mix with milo and make neslo myself in the room to get rid of hunger during study week and exam month. Haha.
Starbucks, CoffeeBean etc might have good coffee, choc, mocha, latte or blended but all too exp (for Malaysian, Thanks to currency exchange). So can go there once maybe after very long time la.
But anyway, the coffee there really very special la (Some of them), That is why its so exp, i think... I think if u really wanna compare the every single cup of coffee in just Malaysia, u'll have to spend a lot of money lo. By the way, different coffee taste suit different ppl lor. Agree???
I also wanted to know how to differentiate between the ori old town white coffee with the ciplak one. Thanks MP.

well, local coffee uses ground coffee powder, as for the fragrance is much less on the beans but more on how they process the beans, how they cook/bake/fry the beans.....
As for franchise coffee, is more of the beans rather than the drying/processing method..... So far I felt that Kenyan's Beans produces the best aroma. Remember Blue Mountain? That's good, but cost a bomb.
As for white coffee.... I know drink, dunno differenciate, need to ask SIFOO MP dy

if you ask serious coffee drinker... i got a lecturer... he only drinks freshly grounded coffee... that means you buy coffee bean... whatever aroma...species...country...$$$...watever lar you prefer... put in the coffee maker... and drink the coffee...fresh... all the coffee mix are nothing close to that... i don't know leh... dun hav the luxury yet...
regarding white coffee... i also know how to drink only...hehe... but you can taste the difference...
like brick said...depending how they process... i heard when i was a small kid... they "stir fry" the coffee beans with butter... that's why got different taste compared to other traditional coffee powder... i not sure true or not...
regarding white coffee mix... got one the brand is "old town"... more important is the content... uf you plan to put ice... must get those mix with at least 40 grams... or else...when you put ice sure become very dilute...
maybe this is why i like white coffee mix... cause they very big pack... put ice already... still can taste the coffee...

Well, to have the best coffee, yes, you need freshly grounded beans. You ground the beans and then immediately put it through the espresso machines. The water pressure that goes through the grounded coffee makes the coffee good. It's better than soaking it with a coffee press.

Ipoh "white" coffee is a roast of coffee prepared using a unique method that combines elements of modern approaches with traditional Malaysian brewing practices. The term "white coffee" originates from the literal translation of its Chinese name. It was introduced in the 19th century by Chinese migrants who came to work in the tin mines
Traditionally, Malaysian style "black" coffee roast (also known as Hainanese coffee; not to be confused with the serving style of coffee without milk) is produced by roasting the beans with sugar and margarine. "White" coffee, on the other hand, is produced with only margarine and without any sugar, resulting in a roast that is less dark, hence the term "white" coffee. Note that the idea that white coffee is produced from a different species of coffee is a common misconception; the species normally used in this roast is the Robusta.
The name "white coffee" is associated with Ipoh, due to it originating from Ipoh (in particular, its Old Town). Exceedingly popular in Ipoh, "white" coffee is slowly but steadily gaining a following in other regions of Malaysia and abroad.
For the sake of convenience and to keep up with the changing times, it is now widely available in the form of pre-packed instant coffee sachets which are freeze-dried. They only require the addition of hot water to prepare a cup of "white" coffee.
Despite the availability of pre-packed versions of white coffee, Ipoh "white" coffee afiçionados invariably swear by the superior taste and aroma of freshly brewed white coffee, which may be produced using any of the standard methods used for brewing ground coffee. As with other coffee variants, the key to a good brew is that the coffee powder has to be fresh, by ensuring:
If ground coffee is used: consuming it within a short period of time (e.g. two weeks) after opening the packaging. If coffee beans are used: grinding them in small amounts to prevent oxidization and degradation of the flavor of the coffee (the coffee bean's oils which give coffee its distinctive flavor will be lost due to oxidization). "White" coffee can either be used pure or blended with normal local coffee. Coffee drinkers should experiment to obtain the optimum balance of flavor.
The following procedure may be used to prepare a cup of white coffee which closely approximates the taste encountered at traditional Ipoh kopitiams (or coffee houses). Note that the resulting coffee beverage has a similar appearance to the Italian espresso macchiato, albeit with a different taste.
Brewing the coffee in the usual manner. (In addition to drip coffee makers and the French press, Malaysian coffee is often prepared using a "sock", which is actually a sock-like sieve). For each cup of coffee, add approximately one teaspoon of condensed milk and a generous dash of evaporated milk. Stir the coffee by beating it vigorously (i.e. until a whitish froth is present on the coffee). This is then served in small cups (approximately 2-3 times larger than a standard espresso shot). However, to get the authentic "white" coffee flavour, it is equally as important to get a suitable coffee mix. White coffee powder may be purchased from suppliers in Ipoh but the correct method of usage is to blend this coffee with standard Malaysian local coffee, rather than using pure "white" coffee. The optimal proportions of "black" coffee to "white" coffee vary according to individual taste, but a ratio of 1:1 is generally a good starting point for experimentation.

I simply cannot take coffee... I think I'm allergic to it but it's not the caffeine I'm having problem with. Same goes to teh tarik but luckily not Chinese and English tea.
If I take a cup of that stuff, that night I'll be very dizzy and cranky. Then the next morning, my head, neck and back hurts all the way down my spine. And I'll be in bed half day because of that.

Try this, take 2 tablespoons of Nescafe with half a cup of Kopi O Kaw, after drinking and you have no spikes in heartbeat, no feel of dizziness/short of breath, I can confirm that you are caffeine immune dy....
