International Life Saving Championships 2008
Permalink Closed

Hello everyone,

The International Life Saving Championships 2008 will be held in Germany some time later this year. I'm going to be frank and straight to the point, participants who are interested must be willing and able to pay for part of the expenses as LSSM will not be fully sponsoring the team.

Both male and female candidates are welcomed. Those who are interested, please go over to the USM pool this Sunday, 20th April 2008 for a time trial that will be conducted by Mr. Lim Chee Gay at 6pm.

All the best.

it is INTERNATIONAL...so...yes...you have to be VERY good...

but of course...no harm trying...
who knows...you may have the hidden potential...
unleashed during the trial...

about the expenses...just some info...

flight should be around RM3.5k pergi balik...Thai Airway...i heard got cheaper...dunno...
accommodation...in a youth hostel (can search for "Haus der Jugend")...
about 17-40 euro...depending on number of beds in a room...
that would be about RM80-200 a night...

em...if you paying yourself...don't think about hotel...
a basic 3 star hotel for 2 person...about 80 euro per night...RM400...

for food...each meal would cost about 5 euro (a plate of spaghetti)...about RM25...depends...
if competition...training...have to eat more...
cheapest is makan roti...1-2 euro only...

and if the competition is 4-5 days...
em...kira yourself...
also some souvenir...
i think it wont be cheap...
even if they "partially sponsor"...

so...those who want to go...
start training hard...
and save some money...

good luck...
try your best... wink

To all current LG,

Like Mun Pung has mentioned, to those interested in joining the Life Saving competitions, do not wait until the last minute before you start training. Take this opportunity in the free time that you have now to train a little.

Those who have a chance to swim, keep swimming to improve your strokes and stamina. For the others who lack the facilities, try jogging or other forms of exercise. Something is better than nothing.

Early preparation is the key!

Agreed.... now is the time to get used to the manikins, practise skills such as turning, head first, etc, before you move on to speed and stamina.

I will still be around in Penang... will be glad to help out in the skills part, especially for beach events (if they are still going to hold it).

During my time, we had the coolest opportunity to be coached by Peter and Don, coaches from Australia on invitation to DHL lifesaving competition. So, we got to learn correct methods of getting on the surfboard, how a 2nd person climb the surfboard with another person already on it (balance is the key), beach flags (how to get up and turn within a few seconds after lying down flat on ur stomach).

It was the best experience ever...biggrin

I've heard about the opportunity to be coached by Mr. Peter and Don, every seniors who participated the event like it so much and they said it's a very good experience. Will we have a chance like this again? We have to invite him?
