on duty is actually a high responsible, boring n not easy job to do.. (in the way keeping urself awake to stare at the pool n keepin urself entertain) as one of the LG on duty, i do admit sometimes the job really so bored n feel like to sleep. (mayb tat's y kenneth koh keep throwing ppl into the pool, it is his own unique way of stayin awake ya, kenneth~)
however, we play when there is play time n we seriously duty when it is time for duty. fooling around is not prohibited during duty time butwe as the LG on duty should be responsible n take good care of the pool at the same time. can u imagine sth happen during u r playing around?? we cant afford to let it happen.
basically, pool duty suppose not to be too boring. it can be fun n interestin as long as we LG on duty can find a balance point between the serious n playness.
You are all adults now, and as such you should start thinking like adults. One should be able to differentiate between the time to be serious and when it is okay to have fun. Being the lifeguard on duty is a serious matter. The exco's have reminded the members over and over again. When it is time to perform pool duty one has to treat it as a serious job
There are people's lives at stake at it is the responsibility of the lifeguard to maintain the safety of the pool. Some of the lifeguards take this for granted. Remember, the public is looking up to you all in carrying out your duties. You possess a skill that they do not have and thats why the entrust you with their lives.
We have our reputation to maintain. USM pool is not considered the safest pool in Malaysia for nothing. We do not this reputation to be tarnished by an unwanted incident.
With that, I would like to add on to what Jun Yuan has said. I myself will admit that being on the job can be boring at times. So, I'm not insisting that you all come equiped with binoculars and scsan the pool every second. Sometimes I know that we all joke and chat amongst oursleves. That's okay.
Just remember to patrol around the pool (not just hide under the umbrella) and be alert at all times.
